Prague walks in English

Welcome to my blog "Caput Regni" which offers English language guide services for foreign visitors to Prague. The words "Praga Caput Regni" come from Latin which was the official language of medieval European countries centuries ago. Praga Caput Regni means in English "Prague - the head of the kingdom" and it was written in the city emblem.

My name is Marketa and as a licensed local tour guide, I will arrange for you:

General walking tours around the city to discover some of Prague's most famous sights including the former seat of Kings and current seat of the President - Prague Castle, the so-called Egg (Charles) Bridge, the romantic beauty of the Royal Gardens, the Old Town Square surrounded with winding cobble-stone streets or the New Town with its vibrant modern lifestyle. During my tours, I focus not only on the history of the Bohemian kingdom and the development of the independent Czech (Czechoslovak) republic, but also on the narration of  famous legends which reflect the city's centuries old charm. I also provide an overview of the architecture which characterizes the city Prague and its typical panoramas: Gothic, Baroque, Art-Nouveau and world unique Cubist architecture.

Specialized walking tours outside of the historical center of Prague or tours focused on a unique topic or interest of your choosing. For example, topics include life behind the "iron curtain", dramatic events of 20th century history, world-famous Czech writers and musicians, international film locations in Prague, old medieval gardens, churches with outstanding architecture and history, catholic pilgrimage places and ancient monasteries, the treasures of the former Jewish quarter, folklore exhibitions and folklore events, specialties of local Prague breweries and vineyards (!), or provocative street art and contemporary Czech artists.

Tailor made tours for families with children designed to meet your ideas, family style and budget. The tour will be adjusted to your children's needs and accompanied with details of recommended indoor and outdoor playgrounds, family friendly restaurants and cafes and cultural, sport or other activities for kids of any age. The city  of Prague will be presented to  little children through charming legends and popular Czech fairy-tale figures such as the water sprite "Vodnik" or "Krtek" the little mole, which I will point out and explain their tradition.

I have also founded a Facebook page called PRAGA CAPUT REGNI where I am  writing about the way I experience the city of Prague, its atmosphere, personal discoveries (interesting sights, exhibitions, pieces of art but also quality food restaurants or my favorite bars, pubs, cafes...etc) which are worth noting and experiencing, so you can be updated about upcoming events and hopefully get some ideas to make your stay in Prague enjoyable.

If you would like me to become your personal tour guide in Prague, please contact me at my email: info@caputregni.cz and I will arrange a private walk or services for the whole stay according to your specifications.
